The American Legion Post 43 in La Grande is serving up hamburgers every Tuesday night from 5PM – 7PM. Stop in for the finest hamburgers in Union County, and enjoy live music too. The public is welcome to come down to 301 Fir Street in La Grande each week to participate.

Veterans of Foreign Wars High Valley Post 4060 is holding Bingo each Wednesday, at the VFW Hall in Union. The doors will open at 5PM, with early bird games starting at 6PM, and regular games at 7PM. For more information, contact Cora, at 541-562-6153.

Every Monday through Friday the Community Connection Senior Dining Center in Baker City serves up lunch at 12PM. There is a suggested donation of $4 for persons 60 and over, and a cost of $6.25 for persons under 60. Stop by Community Connection of Baker County, located at 2810 Cedar St. in Baker City to take a look at the menu and see what else is offered.

The La Grande Farmer’s Market takes place every Saturday morning from 9AM – 12PM at Max Square in Downtown La Grande, and every Tuesday afternoon from 3:30PM – 6PM. Enjoy fresh local produce, baked goods, arts, crafts, live music, and more. For a full schedule of events, visit

The Meals on Wheels program in Baker County is in need of volunteers to deliver meals to seniors at their homes. The time investment is only about two hours per week. La Grande School District and Island City Elementary would like to invite everyone to take part in an upcoming Open House event. The Open House will take place on Wednesday, May 24th, starting at 6PM, in the Island City Elementary Gymnasium. Tour around the facilities to see the new kitchen and classroom additions. On Thursday, June 1st, at the Cook Memorial Library in La Grande, everyone is welcome to join in at 6:30PM for a free screening of the newly released film “Now is the Time – Healthcare for Everybody.” This documentary examines the current healthcare system in our country, and explores other options and possibilities. Following the film will be a moderated discussion from local health care and community leaders. Everyone is welcome to attend this event, that is sponsored by the Oregon Rural Action Health Care Reform Action Team, Union County Progressives, and Union County Democrats. The next Teen Movie Night at the Cook Memorial Library in La Grande will be on held Friday, June 2nd. Teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to come down to the library for this free movie night, starting at its new time, 4PM. Free popcorn and soda will also be available, and teens are encouraged to bring snacks too. The Baker City Apostolic Lighthouse youth group is holding an ongoing can & bottle drive at 7th and Broadway in Baker City. There is a trailer set up with signs that you can drop can and bottle donations into. If you have 2 or more bags you’d like to donate, contact Kristin to arrange a local pickup, at 541-403-0909.

There is a monthly support group for those with spouses who have long term or terminal illness. This support group meets on the first Monday of each month at St. Luke’s Eastern Oregon Medical Associates conference room, at 11:30AM. If you have any questions, contact Gloria at 541-403-2659.

Wildflower Lodge Assisted Living in La Grande holds their Dementia Support Groups on the first and third Wednesday of each month. The Dementia Support Groups are free to attend, and the next one will take place at 12PM on Wednesday, June 7th, at Wildflower Lodge. Imbler Christian Church invites all children ages 4 through 4th grade, to join its Maker Fun Factory Vacation Bible School from June 12th – 16th. Kids will learn about Jesus while singing fun praises, playing exciting games, and enjoying delicious snacks & more! If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, how about becoming a Union County Chamber of Commerce Ambassador? Chamber Ambassadors are a group of volunteers who assist the Chamber office.
